Music in the Panic Society
Ever since the evil human race came into existence, music
has been a form of expression. It first originated when someone
pounded sticks together in a form of beat. Soon afterwards, the
music critic was born. Then the trouble started to occur.
There were all kinds of problems with copyright laws when it
came to writing and playing music. Famous writers such as Mozart
ended up starving to death as a result of the music critics and
stealing of their works.
This was soon taken to the other extreme in the 20th century
by Your Glorious Leaders and the lawyers. There were constant
copyright battles in the courts between writers, singers, radio
stations, programmers, record companies, tape recording, CD
disks, and the new DAT cassette format.
Artists and recording studios want a royalty payment for
each copy sold. In addition, they want a royalty payments for
each time that the record was played over the airways. They even
want royalties for each time the record is played at any events
such as a school dance, or party in which there is a disk jockey
present. They sent bills for royalties each time that they found
that their music was played by any other groups or bands, even
school bands. They would love it if you had to pay a royalty each
time that you played the recording at home.
They have terrible fits every time that you make a
recording, (copy) of their music for your own use. They have been
trying for year to have recording equipment made illegal, or
unavailable to the public. They are even pushing for royalty
taxes on all tapes sold. They would then split up the tax money
for themselves.
Music itself has also been a problem. The first tune that
kids learn is often one that starts fights. This is NAH, NAH,
NNAAH, NA, NAHHHH, NAHHHHH. This tune is even carried into Rock
music.
Later, in their teen years, the problem becomes Rock music.
The kids get hooked on it early. They constantly have it playing
where ever they are. They even have portable players that have
stereo earphones.
They constantly play it with the volume control turned up
full. The sound that comes out is often badly distorted noise.
Parents and neighbors often complained about the extremely loud
noise that thundered out of a teen's bedroom or automobile. This
constant bombardment of noise into their ears has resulted in
many 20th century teenagers suffering from extreme loss of
hearing.
Live rock music can often exceed 140 decibels. Such noise
can cause instant hearing damage. Many teens have the hearing
ability of 80 year old people. It's no wonder that you can scream
at a teen ager and he, she doesn't hear a thing that you said.
What was even worse, was the messages that those songs and
rock stars were sending to their followers. Such messages often
promoted the use of drugs, sex, violence, total disrespect for
authority. Small wonder with some of the names of those groups
such as the Grateful Dead, Megadeath, Sex Pistols, Metallica,
Blue Oyster Cult, Motley Crue, Judust Priest, Beastie Boys, Pink
Floyd, Kiss, AC DC, (which stands for Anti Christ Devil Child),
The Beatles, The Monkeys, Guns N. Roses, Bad English, etc. Even
the album had names such as "trash," "Building the Perfect
Beast," Number of the Beast, "Girls, Girls, Girls," "Dr.
Feelgood," etc. The album covers were awful. They had pictures of
drug use, violence, rape, etc.
The rock concerts were horrid examples of behavior at its
worst. The foul language exploding from 1000 watt speaker towers
was incredible. The loud noise that was called music could break
eardrums. Fire, sparks, and poisonous smoke often belched forth
from the stages. Laser beams and blinding pulsating strobe lights
flashed everywhere. People often storm the stages where they were
then thrown off by the bodyguards and badly injured. Fights and
an occasional shooting would occur in those crowds. Slam dancing
was common at many Heavy Metal concerts. People were often badly
injured by this violence form of dancing and its resulting
fights.
The 20th Century Entertainment Industry had all kinds of
problem in 1988. There were all kinds of problems with drugs and
fights breaking out at the local concerts. The Saginaw Civic
Center had a near riot from a few individuals that started fights
before, during, and after a Rap concert. The concert was cut
short. A police officer was run over by a car and a concert
patron got shot in the leg by someone that fired a gun from a
limo.
An article appeared in the paper the next day. Should the
Civic Center ban certain concerts? Many panic people said YES.
Many of the songs were loaded with lyrics deemed unfit for
hearing. Also, the beat could cause health related problems.
20th. century young people were constantly suffering from hearing
problems that resulted from the long term exposure to such music.
The special effects were also very dangerous to both the
spectator and the concert performers. (Look what happened to
Michael Jackson in 86 when his hair caught on fire.)
Heavy metal concerts became a special concern. Such concerts
became connected with satanic rites and promoted sin, violence,
and other disgusting behavior among the easily corrupted minds of
today's teenagers. The Metallica concert of March, 89 at the
Saginaw Civic Center was a classic example.
Axl Rose, lead singer of Guns N' Roses was charged with
inciting a riot after he attacked a fan who was taking pictures
of him. He used very foul language, and smashed the microphone on
the stage. 16 people were arrested in that melee. The resulting
riot by some 19000 fans destroyed the Riverport Amphitheater.
Fans set lampposts ablaze, kicked down chain link fences, tore
out shrubberies, and smashed audio equipment. 60 people required
hospitalization. The band quickly sneaked out of town. The rest
of the concerts were cancelled. July 2, 1991.
Many of the rock stars were high on drugs and booze. The
Yardbirds performed many of their tunes while high on drugs. Many
rock groups were raggedly dressed with long filthy, greasy,
tangled hair. The women stars were often scantily clothed. The
Beastie Boys swigged beer and threw it all over the place during
their concerts.
Punk rockers were some of the worst. Groups like the Sex
Pistols often destroyed equipment, urinated on the crowd, vomited
on stage, and even cut themselves up with knives. It was not
uncommon for crazy female fans to be gang raped backstage by
those stars. A rock group, "The Popcycle Love Sponge" held a
concert in which the band leader brought out a live chicken on
stage, broke its neck, then proceeded to have sex with it. He was
arrested for this, however, because the chicken was dead, he got
off with a small fine.
A punk rock singer was arrested for lewd behavior at a bar.
He was arrested for urinating and defecation on stage. Most of
the crowd left when he has starting tossing his own feces at
them.
He was arrested again November 20,1991 when police though
that there was a riot at another club. Patrons started fleeing
the club when this punk rocker started eating his own feces.
There was blood everywhere. He had started his act by smashing a
bottle on his forehead and grinding in the sharp edges. Again,
the charges were lewd behavior and nudity on stage.
It is no wonder then that The stars themselves were often
mentally unstable. They did not know how to handle all of that
wealth and fame. Many of those groups went through periods of
heavy drinking, wild sex, partying, and drug use as a result of
their success. Some of those star's career were cut short as a
result of fatal car wrecks, plane crashes, etc. Even popular
stars such as Elvis died from drug overdoses or heavy drinking as
their careers fell on hard times. Country Western stars such as
Johnny Cash often had to have a "Stiff Drink" to keep going while
they were performing at concerts. Classical artist such as
Liberachie often dressed in wild glittery outfits that were as
flaky as the Gay sexual activity that finally killed him as a
result of AIDS. There were other stars that trashed hotel room
just for the fun of it.
Mick Jagger, the rock & roll singer, got a lot of
satisfaction. He got sexual satisfaction from Eric Clapton,
Madonna, David Bowie, Carley Simon, Andy Warhol, Paul Nureyev,
princess Margaret and many others. This according to a tell it
all book called "Jagger Unauthorized" He failed to get Geraldo
Rivera, the great TV trash tabloid host.
"Teen-agers' fascination with rock 'n' roll, especially
heavy metal music, may be associated with drug use, premarital
sex, and satanic rites, according to a report from a special
committee of the American Medical Association." Saginaw news.
Friday, September 22, 1989. Page C7.
Small wonder sex is such a problem when song lyrics such as
"Will you have sex with me," "Lets go all the way!", "Do you
think I'm sexy?", "Girls, Girls, Girls," in some of the top 40
hits.
Pink Floyd's hit record, The Wall, featured the lyrics
"Teachers, leave those kids alone," promoted disrespect of
authority in schools. The rock video "Father Figure" shows a
scummy looking guy chasing a movie star and fantasizing about
raping her. Then, there is the Madonna rock video "Like a Prayer"
where she fantasizes about being seduced by a black Catholic
priest in a church. And other promoted violence. "Jamie got a
gun. She is on the run." "Bang Bang, I shot you down! Bang Bang,
You hit the ground."
"Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" is a beetle hit that
glorifies the use of LSD, a very dangerous drug. The beetle hit
"The Walrus" has lyrics such as "Yellow Custard, Dripping From a
Dead Dogs Eye." "Don't Fear the Reaper" is lyrics from a song
that glorifies death. One heavy metal tune glorifies suicide and
actually was responsible for several of them. This even though
the song writer insists that was not the intention.
Rap music is the latest craze among Black teens. Much of
this music doesn't have any singing. A great deal of it is angry,
violent noise, full of filthy language, and promotes disrespect
for law and order.
Some examples, Guns N' Roses, "I used to love her but I had
to kill her." The Liberal ACLU even supports having lyrics such
as "I'm a sniper with a hell of a 'scope... Takin' out a cop or
two..." The song is called "F--- tha Police" by N.W.A. Also by
N/W.A. "Here's a murder rap to kep ya dancin'/ with a crime
record like Charles Manson/ AK-47 is the tool, Don't make me act
like a motherf---in' fool." The record cover shows a guy with a
gun barrel in his mouth and two other guns pointed in each ear.
March 29, 1992. Teen gangs responded to the messages of
N.W.A. by declaring war on Los Angles. The police, who became
targets of the gangs, were powerless to stop them. By May 1, when
the National Guard moved in, there has been 31 deaths, 800 severe
injuries, a billion dollars of arson damage, and over 4000
arrests.
Sister Sedge, another rap star openly promoted the use of
violence by saying that black youths should kill white people for
a change. Presidential democratic candidate Bill Clinton,
denounced this statement as promoting racism. He was promptly
called a "Racist" by Jessie Jackson and Sister Sledge in live
interviews on the Today show, June 16, 1992. Host Bryon Gumbal
promptly agreed.
Another group called Ice-T uses lyrics like "Girls, Lets get
butt naked and f---. I mean real stupid and nasty." Many radio
stations have resisted in playing those songs in spite of
pressure from the ACLU. (All source of the rap material from
Newsweek, March 19,1990".)
"Among the offending contents are references to Satanism,
adultery, bestiality, ethnic intimidation, incest, morbid
violence, sexual conduct in violent context, murder, nudity,
rape, sado-masochism, sodomy, suicide, or the abuse of alcohol
and drugs." Saginaw News, April 5th, 1990.
The Nationally publicized attack, rape, and vicious beating
of a female jogger by teen boys has now been linked to music.
When arrested a defendant said, "It was something to do. It was
fun." Where can you get the idea that sexual violence against
women is fun? From a music store, through Walkman earphones, from
boom boxes blaring forth the rap music of 2 Live Crew: (Newsweek
July 30,1990).
The heavy metal group Judust Priest, have been linked with
two suicide death of two teen boys. The Album "Stained Glass" is
about death. Hidden in the songs lyrics were the messages "Do it"
and "Lets be Dead."
Another rock group, Ozzie Osbourne, also performed songs
about suicide. Two teenagers soon committed suicide after
listening to the song.
The parents decided to do something about it. They sued the
rock group. They won. The case was then appealed. Unfortunately,
the U.S. supreme court ruled in favor of the rock stars.
As a result, there was great panic from the Catholic and
other churches to ban rock and rap music. Many religious groups
forbid their members from listening to such noise. Record
companies were forced to put warning labels on their records.
Several local record outlets, such as Tape World, quit selling
many of its popular rap tapes to teens. Several states also tried
legislating morality by attempting to try to define just what is
obscene. Others are attempting to restrict just who will attend
some of the live concerts. A huge battle is sure to unfold as two
opposing Liberal Extremist groups clash head on in a fight that
involves the issue of freedom of speech vs verbal morality.
One such battle has occurred in Florida. The rap song from 2
Live Crew, "As Nasty As They Want To Be," was declared obscene by
a liberal Federal Judge. A record store owner was arrested on
June 8 for selling those records in his music store. He is mad as
hell over what he calls "the communist like behavior of the
Government and its disregard over free speech." He was selling
those records to adults only.
June 11, 1990. Lead singers from 2 Live Crew were arrested
on obscenity charges after they performed in a live concert in Ft
Lauderdale, Fla. Band leader Luther Campbell and Chris Wongwon
were arrested by more then a dozen sheriff detectives early
Sunday.
They were charged with singing lyrics from "As nasty as They
Wanna Be" their platinum selling album. Arrest warrants are also
issued for band members Mark Ross and David Hobbs. Members face a
$1000 find and a year in jail. Liberals have scored a victory in
putting limits on "Freedom of Speech" so far in this case. This
is sure to explode as the rape, beating case of the Central Park
Jogger has now been linked to music of 2 Live Crew.
Other forms of music were not without problems. The business
community tried to soothe people with a form of la de da that was
called Musac. This stuff was so horrid that employees often
brought walkmen with them so that they didn't have to listen to
that stuff. Some people went crazy from suffering to that boring
stuff. People trapped in elevators went crazy while being forced
to listen to it. Many old widows liked listening to it. (Most
likely, it was because of their poor hearing.)
Even country western had its problems. There were many songs
about being in trouble with the law. Other songs pushed sex. "Lay
lady lay. Lay across my big brass bed." "Cowboys don't hang
around much anymore. All they want to do is wam! bam! thank you
mam." They also glorified violence. "How do you do. My name is
Sue. Now, you are going to die!"
In fact, much of country music is nothing but depressing
songs about loneliness, despair, prison, endless work, broken
promises, etc.
A study has now linked suicide with the depressing lyrics of
country music. (News report from a local rock FM station,
November, 92.) After all, country western songs are about, "My
girl, wife ran off with someone else, my truck broke down, my
dwag died, I'm in prison again, etc..."
People began to panic over what this music was doing to the
teens. There was much lobbying and complaining to get this stuff
off the radios. Many concert groups were banned from performing
at local concert halls. Then, along came cable TV and MTV.
With MTV, the viewers could see graphic examples of the
violence, sex, drugs, nudity, disrespect of authority, etc., as
well as the audio filth that spewed out of the mouths of those
rock stars. There were even scenes of Chars bare behind and
Madana grabbing her crotch. Parents went crazy when they
discovered what their kids were watching and imitating.
Network TV was not free of this menace either. People were
constantly bombarded with fantastic recording offers. Newspapers,
and tabloids were full of one cent record clubs and all of their
fabulous offers.
Such offers were full of pitfalls. Often, the recordings
were shortened versions of poor quality. Many were bootlegged
from records and recordings which was the reason for the poor
quality.
The record clubs hooked you with the one cent offer, Then,
they stuck you with their record of the month for the next
several years. That record was often junk.
There were some attempts to regulate the menace of music. In
1988, The City of Saginaw attempted to regulate what type of rock
concerts would appear at the Civic Center after a rock concert
was interrupted several times by two shootings and many fights.
Several fans were also injured at a Beastie Boys concert when the
rock stars threw beer bottles at the fans. Cheek and Chong and
several other rap record albums were banned from air play at many
radio stations due to the filthy language and the heavy use of
the F--- words in them. Beastie Boys concerts were banned in
several locations after parents were horrified by the sight of a
giant penis rising from the stage near the end of such concert.
The following are letters to the editor of the Saginaw News
submitted January 1993 by outraged parents.
Rockers offensive
Editor, The News;
On Sunday, Dec. 27, a 13-year-old girl, whose father drove
from Houghton Lake to let his daughter attend her first rock and
roll concert at the Saginaw Civic Center , coincidentally sat
next to a veteran rock and roll fan.
Both were shocked when the lead singer for Jackyl
deliberately exposed his genitals and then turned and mooned the
audience. If this behavior had happened on the streets of Saginaw
he would have been arrested for indecent exposure. With an
auditorium full of police and security guards, why was this
violation of the law tolerated?
Though Ted Nugent's music was appreciated, his vulgar
comments between songs were offensive, even to the veteran fan!
Such behavior of both of these purported role models for our
teen-agers should be condemned.
If parents took the time and effort to learn what their
children are hearing and seeing at these concerts, a boycott by
the parents of their children' s attendance might encourage these
role models to clean up their act.
Beverly D. Schneider Midland
MTV 'disgusting'
Editor, The News:
MTV and morals don't mix, As a cable subscriber I find MTV
very disgusting. If ever there was a time of declining morals it
is today.
I deCided to watch this station with my children to see
exactly what it is that nesmerizes them to do nothing but watch
this mess all day long, and what an eyeful.
Yes, an eye full of garbage. Women half naked, men making
movements on television that should be kept in the privacy of
one's home, men and women literally having sex on TV that all
ages are watching, and we wonder why sexual promiscuity and
babies having babies is on the rise.
For the kind of money we pay for cable, you would think they
could find decent movies and take some of those videos off. There
are at least three stations that play nothing but videos all day
long, and our children sit all day long watching them.
Let's try to find a way to be rid of MTV and other
demoralizing stations that bring nothing positive to OUr
communities.
To summarize my feelings on MTV I could assume it stands for
Morals That (are) Vanishing!
Sue Billings Saginaw *
During July of 1991, the TCA cable company dropped MTV from
its offering of cable channels. They did so because of the
thousands of complaints they received from angry parents that
were mad at all the sex and violence in those rock videos. Of
course, the operators of MTV don't agree.
Before the wild, riotous concert sponsored by MTV in Belmar,
New Jersey, was over, City officials said that the rap group Cris
Cross, must end their performance. The resulting riot by fans
totally trashed the town. Needless to say, there will be no more
concerts in Belmar. MTV is being sued for damages.
People are also being urged to boycott Warner Bros products
as a result of the company's insistence of selling a rap albumen
with the title of "Kill The Police"
The Panic Society solved this problem once and for all by
banning all forms of music. Members are not allowed to listen
too, play, sing, whistle, bang things to make sound, or otherwise
attempt to do something that could be considered to be music.
This will be done for the person's own good and well being.
There will never be any problems with copyrights,
bootlegging, hearing loss, exposure to foul language, obscene
gestures, etc., that comes from playing, writing, or listening to
music. People will be well protected from the side effects of
music.
In case you don't know it, the song "Happy Birthday" is
still protected by a copyright. Royalty payments are still
required each time that it is played in public.
The current plan under the liberals of the Clinton
Adminstration is a law that would require that any broadcaster
pay royalty to the record company any time that a recording is
played on the air.
This would have a devastating effect on the radio industry.
The bookkeeping required would be prohibitively expensive. It
will result in many of them either going out of business, or
changing formats away from popular music.
Another law in the works is a "Pay per listen or audio on
demand" service. This would be used to eliminate retail sales of
records and tapes.
Already, broadcasters shell out $300 million annually for
the rights to broadcast music over the airways.
Is this all possible?
In the Communist nations, what the population sees, hears,
and watches on the government controlled media is well regulated
by the Government censors. It is done so that those Governments
can maintain total control over the populations. North Korea has
gone so far as to have all radios and TVs modified so that they
can only receive government controlled stations.
